one of the most interesting features in the WXP explorer was the ability to invoke the explorer from the command line specifying a folder and creating a virtual root at that point. it is not possible to navigate above it. this allows creation of virtual trees consisting of folders and links and nothing else. wonderful way to organize projects. probably not missing in the W7 explorer, but the W7 explorer is pretty much an insult to use in out-of-the-box form.
consult WXP documentation on explorer /root invocation line option for a better description of what i would consider a necessary refinement of your otherwise excellent program.
many thanks
Rooted View in Folders Pane (TREE VIEW)
Re: Rooted View in Folders Pane (TREE VIEW)
This is a good suggestion for me. Nevertheless I also would like to know David's opinion about it.
If he agrees as well, I will add it to the list of things to do.

If you like, i could send a screen shot of what a rooted (tree) navigation pane looked like in wxp. quite elegant and a fabulously simple way of organizing complex research and development.ajs wrote:This is a good suggestion for me. Nevertheless I also would like to know David's opinion about it.

Thanks for both screenshot.
1) for the start root folder, as I said we need to see David's opinion as well, but I think it is a good idea
2) for the "folder" size, it's already in the list of things to fix.

For the folder size, patch developed and submitted.

For the "root" pane, still waiting to hear David's opinion as well.

i see that the "Folders" heading size problem turned out to be an interesting one. not sure what to do with the patch. i assume that it will eventually find its way into the distributed executable.
i noticed that the rooted view concept was an integral part of the shell/explorer functionality (at least as far as xp). the TreeView control seems to implement it directly. anyway, thanks for your interest.
